How to set up shipping

Default Domestic Shipping Setup

Setting up your shipping options can be a tedious process. We have designed a quick and easy step-by-step guide to get your shipping up and running. Below, you will see the best guidelines to set up domestic shipping. We will cover the following topics in this tutorial:

  • Setting up your Domestic Shipping
  • Basic shipping strategy and good default settings
  • Setting up a shipping fee
  • Dimension restrictions for each carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx)
  • Recommended Shipping settings

Here is how to get started:

Navigate to:

  • Cart Settings
  • Payment, Shipping & Discounts
  • Manage Shipping
  •  Navigate to the “ Real-Time Methods” tab
  •  Select the “ +Add a new real-time shipping method”
  • Choose the destination region
  • Choose the shipping carrier you wish to ship by (ie. FedEx, UPS, USPS)
  • Choose the carrier method
  • Select the state/province or all
  • Select the weight range for this method. (Note: do not exceed the max weight for each method)
  • Apply any fees
  • You can change the display name (What the customer will see)
  • Mark method as not hidden
  • Hit Save

Note: We recommend using either FedEx or UPS as your primary shipping carrier based on your preferred carrier. The reason is checkout can get crowded if there are too many shipping options.

Setting up shipping fees

Shipping fees are used to add or subtract an additional fee to the daily pick-up rate through a percentage or fixed dollar amount.

  • Navigate to the “Real-Time Methods” tab
  • Choose either percentages or fixed US Dollar fees to add to each individual category.
  • Your shipping fees are now done!

Dimension restrictions for each carrier are listed below:

The final product should look like this:

Your customer will see this during checkout:

NOTE: for UPS you will have 4 shipping methods but the steps are the same. You will replace FedEx with UPS-Ground and UPS-Express Saver

The reason we recommend this method is because it simplifies the shipping process. You get a clean look which provides your customer with three easy to read and understand options.

Why do we rename the methods to be more generic? This allows you to not be locked in to a shipping method. For example a customer chooses "Standard Shipping". You can ship in a flat rate box! This gives you more freedom and flexibility to ship.
